You might be one of those people who remember a phone number from 2004 and then spend five minutes looking for their glasses. You might start the day with a twelve-point plan and by lunchtime already be on point thirteen, which was never in the plan at all. Or you might promise yourself every Sunday that from Monday you will be more organised, more patient and will stop taking on other people's work, only to find on Tuesday that you are doing exactly the same thing again.
Over time we get used to these quirks and file them under the handy “That's just how I am”. Yet behind that sentence sits a whole combination of will, energy, memory, logic, attitude to work, sensitivity to people, the ability to pursue a goal and a heap of small details that shape how we act every day. Why does one person give up easily while another keeps going long after everyone else has told them to drop it? Why does one need a plan, a backup plan and a backup for the backup, while another buys a ticket on Friday and is at the airport by Saturday? Why is a promise almost a contract for one person, while another honestly cannot see why the words “we'll see” were taken as a promise?
The Pythagoras Square, also called the psychomatrix, looks at exactly this personal combination through your date of birth. Four additional numbers are calculated from it, and then we count how many times each digit from 1 to 9 appears in the date and in those numbers. This gives nine cells, each linked to a different side of character: will, energy, interest in knowledge, physical resources, logic, attitude to work, luck, sense of duty and memory.
The intriguing part is that it also matters how many times each digit repeats. A quality can be faint, well developed, or so strong that it is both your advantage and the reason the people close to you sigh a little more deeply now and then. A strong will, for example, helps you keep going at the first difficulty and stand up for your decisions. When it is too strong, though, an innocent “Maybe you're wrong” easily turns into a conversation that clearly has to go on until the truth prevails.
Energy works the same way. Some people have enough for work, meetings, guests and an evening “Let's go out”, while others have to choose much more carefully whom and what they give it to. If the second keeps trying to live at the pace of the first, they start wondering why they cannot keep up, when they simply have a different inner reserve.
Empty cells matter too. A missing digit points to a quality that does not come automatically and more often grows through experience, surroundings and your own decisions. Maybe discipline does not come naturally to you, so you invent systems, deadlines and alarms to finish what you start. Maybe memory is not your strong suit and your phone knows more about your life than you do. Maybe you do not count much on luck and you are the person who leaves for the airport three hours early, because “you never know”.
The nine cells are only the beginning, because the square is also read by rows, columns and diagonals. They show how the separate qualities work together and say more about determination, attitude to family, habits, self-esteem, everyday life and the material side of things, talent, spirituality and temperament. It is the combination that explains why you can have a strong will and wonderful ideas yet be unable to bear routine. In one evening you think up a business, give it a name, check the domain and can almost see the first million, until you reach the tedious detail that next Tuesday you will have to do the same again.
You can be extremely hard-working and responsible yet find it hard to say no. Everyone knows they can count on you, which is lovely for them, until one day you look at your calendar and find in it a life for roughly three people. You can have strong logic and weigh every option in such detail that by the time you reach a decision, the opportunity has already passed you by, waved and moved on. That is why the square makes sense as a whole picture: one quality can support another, make up for it or make it show itself in a completely different way.
It gets even more interesting when you put next to your square the square of a partner, child, parent, friend or someone you work with. One says, “We'll sort it out when the time comes,” while the other already has a spreadsheet, three possible scenarios and a fallback in case the first three fail. Both may want the same thing, yet the way each gets there can be completely different.
With “The Two of You” you can see where one naturally carries more of a quality that is weaker in the other, where you complement each other, where you are alike and where that very likeness starts causing trouble. If one forgets and the other remembers, you will probably manage. If you both forget, at least you will have a good story about why nobody bought the tickets.
