You may be walking down an old street in a city you are visiting for the first time, and suddenly it seems suspiciously familiar. You look at a house and say to yourself: “I know this place,” even though your passport says otherwise. You hear a language you have never learned, and something inside you smiles. You look at the sea, a mountain, an old courtyard, a theatre stage and feel that strange “there it is”. I love moments like these, because the mind immediately starts looking for a sensible explanation, while the soul is clearly under no obligation to submit documents in triplicate. It simply recognises.
That is exactly where we started in the article “Where Does Your Soul Want to Return?” — with the places, eras and images that draw us more than logic says they should. In the test “Which Place Recognises You?” we let the gaze choose between different worlds and hint at what we are really looking for through them. And with this Tarot spread we go deeper and ask the question I find most interesting: what am I recognising, why is it pulling me there right now, and what of it wants a place in my life today?
This spread is for you if you have long had an inner “over there”. If a certain country, era, city, sea or way of life stirs you for no clear reason. If there is a person who feels strangely familiar. If an old story keeps calling. If you have a talent you keep postponing until “when I have time”, or you feel that the role that fitted you until recently is starting to pinch. You may begin with “Why does Italy stir me so much?”, “Why do I keep picturing a home by the sea?”, “Why does this person get under my skin like this?” and gradually arrive at very down-to-earth answers: I miss freedom, I want a place of my own, I want to be loved in a different way, I want to use what I can do, I want to set off, I want to stop waiting.
In front of you are four symbols — a key, a compass, a letter and an arch. Do not study them in advance and do not try to guess which one you are “supposed” to choose. Let your eyes do their work before the mind starts drawing up a list of arguments. You will see the meaning of each symbol after you choose. For now, just look at all four and notice which one you return to once more, even though you have already seen it. That is usually exactly where there is something for you.
Then read your variant to the end. It has five positions that will gradually lead you from the image to your own life. And if along the way you start wondering whether you really once lived in a palace, by a harbour or in an ancient city, set that question aside for a while — especially if the palace looks decent and has a terrace. What is more interesting is what exactly you recognised in this image and why you need it now. A place, a person, a talent, courage, freedom, belonging, a new beginning — all things that can sound far away until one day you realise you are actually looking for them in your own life.
After your variant you can also continue in the Game of the Soul, because each of these four paths opens a different next door — Gifts, The Crossroads, Letting Go, Compatibility, The Lineage or The Body, depending on what you recognised. So the choice carries on after the reading — that is where the more interesting part begins, when you already know what you are asking.
