This series of Tarot cards can rightly be considered a classic, modelled after one of the earliest decks of playing cards. Tarot Classic reproduces cards published by Carlo Dellarocca in 1835 in Milan, with reproductions made using modern techniques.
In working on these Tarot cards, the compilers drew upon the finest examples of Italian Tarot, preserving their artistic, historical, and esoteric value. Each card includes keyword meanings in four languages to aid in divination, making the process of interpretation easier for the modern reader – especially when working with the Minor Arcana, where illustration symbolism alone is not always sufficient. And while this addition may puzzle the most philologically rigorous tarot readers, Lo Scarabeo draws attention to this exceptionally important series for researchers of Tarot history, and strives to contribute to the preservation and dissemination of its cultural and artistic traditions.
Without an understanding of the past and without knowing the origins of the cards, it is truly very difficult to approach their meaning in the right way.
