12 Houses – Thematic Spread Collection for MAK and Tarot
There are moments when someone sits down in front of the cards and says: "All right, but what am I actually supposed to ask?" And that is exactly when 12 Houses comes to the rescue. Instead of searching for one single question, you can take a broader view — what is going on in a person's life, which themes are active right now, where there is tension, what is driving them, and which areas deserve more attention.
12 Houses is a thematic collection of spreads for MAK and Tarot, created for self-discovery, psychological portraits, client work, and exploring a wide range of life situations. It uses the idea of the twelve houses as a structure in which individual positions direct attention to different spheres of life, making it possible to build a more complete picture.
The collection can be used with both Tarot cards and MAK and associative cards. With Tarot, the symbols and archetypes provide material for interpretation, while with MAK, an image can unlock personal associations, memories, feelings, and perspectives that a person does not always manage to express directly. The same spread can tell a completely different story depending on the deck and the person sitting across from you.
What can 12 Houses do?
First and foremost — give direction when there is no clear question. This is especially valuable when working with someone who knows something is happening in their life but cannot sum it up in a single sentence. Rather than forcing a question at any cost, we can let the cards show which themes are important right now.
The collection can be used to create a psychological portrait — to explore character, inner motivations, the person's current state, and the way they experience different areas of their life. It is equally suited to self-discovery, for those moments when we want to look at ourselves from the outside and notice things that are easy to overlook in everyday life.
Of course, love also has something to say. 12 Houses can be used to analyse relationships — as a portrait of a partner, as a way to explore one's own perception of them, or as a look at the various areas in which a relationship unfolds. When working with two decks, the perspectives and experiences of two people can each be examined.
The same approach can be applied to marriage and family, to career path, work, finances, home, and many other life themes. This makes the collection far more flexible than a spread designed for just one specific question.
You can also use it when facing a particular decision or change — for example, a career change, vocational guidance, relocating, or buying a property. Instead of viewing the situation from only one angle, the twelve-house structure allows you to examine it from several different perspectives.
And here is where it gets more interesting. Once the cards have been placed in their positions, they can be read not only individually. The colour-coded connections in the layout point to additional relationships between positions. After going through positions 1 to 12, you can trace these connections as a triangle and a cross, and explore how the different themes interact with one another.
One card may speak to one thing, another to something completely different — but when you look at them through the connections between positions, a bigger picture begins to take shape. That is precisely why the 12 Houses spread is compelling for personal work as well as for tarot readers, consultants, and MAK practitioners.
With this collection you can work on:
- self-discovery and personal development;
- psychological portrait and the person's current state;
- love and romantic relationships;
- marriage and family relationships;
- work and professional development;
- vocational guidance;
- financial and material matters;
- home and place of residence;
- buying or changing property;
- important decisions and life changes;
- personal and client-focused questions;
- exploring themes that are difficult to put into words.
How does it work?
You choose a Tarot or MAK deck according to the purpose of the session, follow the questions of the chosen technique, and place the cards in their corresponding positions. With MAK you can use the images as a starting point for free association and conversation, and with Tarot — the symbolism, archetypes, and connections between the cards. You then look at the individual positions before moving on to the additional colour-coded connections, to see what emerges when the whole picture is brought together.
12 Houses was created for those moments when a single question is too small for the story a person carries. Instead of cutting the situation into pieces, you can look at it as a whole and let the cards show where the real theme lies.
The collection is suited for tarot readers, consultants, psychologists, coaches, and MAK practitioners, as well as anyone who uses Tarot and associative cards as a tool for self-discovery and personal work. It provides a ready-made structure while leaving plenty of room for your own interpretation, intuition, and way of working.
