The first one was attentive. He wrote in the mornings, remembered when your exam was, came to pick you up. Then he started answering more slowly. You told a friend: “He's just busy.” He lasted another five months and left.
The second one was an entirely different man. Loud, funny, buying concert tickets at the last minute. Then he started answering more slowly. You told a friend: “He's just like that.” He lasted another seven months and left.
The third one was serious and quiet, and that is precisely why you decided this time was different. You know how it goes on. Three different men, three different years, the same ending — and one sentence that arrives sooner or later: “Hold on. I have been here before.”
Our stories show enviable inventiveness in the details and a remarkable lack of imagination in the ending. The people change, the years, the cities, the circumstances, sometimes even our own convictions. The ending, however, knows the way.
For one person the repetition is in money. It arrives — and shortly after it comes an expense that seems to have been tipped off in advance. A bill, a tooth, a tyre, a relative in trouble. The sum changes, the rhythm stays.
For another it is in work. The beginning goes beautifully, a chance for the next step appears, and right there something jams. Sometimes from outside, sometimes from within, but always at the same centimetre from the goal.
And then there is that peculiar “almost”, which can turn up anywhere. Almost worked out. Almost got there. Almost was mine.
When something happens once, we calmly call it chance. The second time we raise an eyebrow. By the third, a person begins to suspect that the Universe has either a very particular sense of humour or something to say. And that is when the question changes. From “Why has it happened again?” it becomes “What keeps bringing me back to the same place?”
The second question has an answer.
When people talk about a birth chart, the sun sign comes out first, then the Ascendant, the Moon, Venus and the rest of the familiar cast. Two points stand more quietly, and for the theme of repetition they may be the most important of all: the lunar nodes, Ketu and Rahu — the South and North Node.
They are astronomical points where the Moon's orbit crosses the visible path of the Sun. They have no body and no mass. What they carry is a whole axis of meaning: Ketu holds what has already been mastered, and Rahu points towards the direction that is still waiting for experience.
Ketu is old luggage you have carried so long that you no longer feel it. There you know how to survive. You know how to react, how to take back control, how to avoid the pain or at least how to live through it in a familiar way.
So when things get hard, your hand reaches for the old behaviour by itself. It is tried and tested. It comes with instructions, even if the warranty expired years ago.
Here is how Ketu sounds from the inside: “I'll wait a bit longer so I don't spoil things.” “I'll manage on my own, as always.” “Better to leave that subject for another time.” “There's no point in asking, she'll refuse anyway.” The sentences look reasonable. That is exactly why they work for so long.
Rahu is the more uncomfortable place, because there is no ready script there. There you may feel unsure, make mistakes, have no idea in advance how the story ends.
Development almost always goes that way. Habit pulls back. Between the two stands one specific moment that lasts about three seconds — the moment you choose.
The situation looks new. Another person, another job, another city. And then comes the deciding minute — and the old answer switches on.
He started answering more slowly, and you left the question unasked, because asking looks like pressure to you. The opportunity appeared, and you waited to be sure, because asking for it looks like cheek to you. The money came in, and you turned it straight into something other people expect from you, because holding on to it looks like selfishness to you.
The faces change. The set changes. The inner reaction stays familiar enough to produce a familiar ending.
That is why repetition is something that can be read. It has handwriting.

Saturn has to do with time, boundaries, responsibility, maturity and those results that rarely come from enthusiasm alone. He is like a strict teacher who may well like his students, and that in no way means he will skip the test.
Where Saturn is strongly tied to a given theme, the feeling appears that something always slows things down. In love the lesson may be about boundaries, or about a relationship you are holding up almost single-handedly. At work — about your own worth, about persistence, about responsibility. With money — about the way you manage resources and safety.
The forms differ. What they share is this: the old approach stops producing results, and the new one asks for a conscious choice.
That is why life sometimes looks strangely uneven. In one area things go almost by themselves, while in another you spend years walking into the same wall. You change the circumstances and the wall suspiciously turns up again — because it travels with you.
The nodes and Saturn give the important part of the picture. The repetition, though, can be seen elsewhere too: in the numbers of the date of birth, in the life cycles, in the reactions a person uses over and over, even in the way they word their questions.

Second — where it comes from and how it turned into a familiar reaction. Usually something turns up here that was a sensible decision at the time and stayed on the payroll long after its contract ran out.
Third — what keeps it going now. This is the most uncomfortable part, because it speaks about the present, and the present is the only place where you can actually touch anything.
Fourth — how the clearing begins.
That question always comes, and it comes right after you understand where the pattern starts. So the reading goes as far as concrete things: which behaviour keeps the chain going, what different choice can break it, and which two or three steps make sense over the coming months.
Sometimes the step is small to the point of being funny. Asking the question you have been walking around for four months. Naming a price without adding an apology after it. Letting one silence stand instead of filling it yourself.
The chain breaks at its thinnest point, and the thinnest point is almost never the one that looks the most dramatic.
The fourth one started answering more slowly in the third month.
The old answer is ready and waiting: “He's just busy.” It is convenient, because it spares you the asking. And the spared question is exactly what you did the previous two times as well.
The new answer is one spoken line: “I notice you're answering less often. What's going on?” It takes eight seconds and costs less than eight months, because it brings the truth sooner — whatever that truth turns out to be.
That is the difference between Ketu and Rahu on a perfectly ordinary Tuesday. The chain breaks with a sentence far more often than with an insight.
