We all know what happens after a reading. You walk out with a few important sentences in your head, one of them landed particularly close, another you are still turning over, and about a third you have already decided to do something quite specific. In that moment everything looks clear. Then a few days pass, everyday life takes your attention back, the phone rings, work is waiting, someone needs you, three more tasks appear, and the insight gradually settles somewhere between the shopping list and the promise that from Monday you will start the thing you have been postponing since last Monday.
The question, however, keeps living. That is exactly where FatedWays – the Game of the Soul begins. It is a transformational game that you enter with a personal question and keep walking with. Every move looks at it through a different system and from a different angle – Tarot, runes, the I Ching, Archangels and further messages depending on the field you land on. Gradually actions are added, mirror questions, your own answers and the history of everything you have walked through.
After a few days there are first traces. After more moves recurring themes begin to show. After a month the question may look entirely different from the way you formulated it at the start. And this is where it gets interesting, because the game remembers. It remembers what you asked, what you answered, what you decided to do and which themes you keep returning to. Human memory sometimes shows admirable inventiveness when it comes to forgetting one's own promise. The Book of the Soul is considerably more consistent.
The first step is to write your question. Usually there is no need to invent it for long, because it is already going round in your head. It may be about love, work, money, family, home, moving, a coming change, an important choice, or a person around whom there are more question marks than answers.
You could write, for example: “My dream is a flat by the sea, drinking my coffee in the morning while looking at the water. Will it happen?” Here there is a clear picture, a wish and a direction, which let the game look at the theme concretely. Another person may come in with: “Why do I keep waiting for someone who doesn't choose me?” For them the focus is already on the cause and the repeating pattern. Both questions can lead down a long road; they simply start from different places.
The more precisely you say what occupies you, the more material the game has to work with. The general question “What awaits me?” leaves a very wide field, while “Can I move to another country within the next two years, and what would that possibility open?” already gives a clear thread. Write naturally, the way you would explain the matter to someone you genuinely want to be understood by. Literary ornaments can safely be saved for another occasion.
Once the question is written, it becomes the main theme of your movement. If you ask about the house by the sea, the Tarot card is read through that dream, the rune examines the conditions around it, the I Ching shows what kind of moment this is, and the Archangel's message enters the same story with a different voice. So a picture gradually forms in which the separate systems talk to each other around one and the same question.
Every move starts with choosing a number from one to six. Your feeling in the moment takes part here. You look at the numbers and choose the one you are drawn to intuitively. Your date of birth may rest, your favourite number too, and the time on your phone has no special role this time, however convincingly it shows 11:11.
The chosen number determines the movement along the spiral of the game. It is built on seven levels connected to the seven chakras. On the lower levels the themes are closer to material life – body, safety, work, money, home and everyday decisions. Higher up the focus gradually shifts towards relationships, personal power, intuition, meaning and the way you perceive your own story.
The choosing itself takes seconds, but the place you land on can open a theme you will think about for considerably longer. And that is precisely the idea of the movement – sometimes you reach a field that fits your mood that day beautifully, and sometimes you land on something that at first seems far from your question, and after a few sentences you begin to see why you are there.
When you land on a field, you receive a whole message in which the different systems light up your theme from their own point of view. Tarot shows the movement and the process. If the Wheel of Fortune appears, for instance, its meaning is tied to your concrete question – which cycle is changing, what possibility is approaching, what you need to recognise and where events are starting to stir.
The rune puts the accent on the condition. It can show where action is required, patience, letting go of an old habit, or a clearer boundary. The I Ching looks at the moment and the direction of development – what happens if you act, what changes if you wait, and what rhythm the situation has. The Archangel's message comes in differently, usually through the emotional and spiritual side of the question.
Depending on the field, a Kabbalistic message, an oil for the day, a short ritual or a task may also appear. Gradually you also learn what touches you most. One person will notice the Tarot card immediately, another will return twice to the rune, and a third will read the I Ching and wonder how exactly it knows about the conversation they have been postponing since last week.
The most interesting moments come when several different systems begin pointing at one and the same theme. Tarot speaks of a choice, the rune sets a boundary, the I Ching shows that the moment is ripe for action. Then it is worth looking more closely, because one and the same thread is surfacing through several different languages.
The game has two main threads – the earthly and the soul thread. The earthly one is about what you can do in real life, while the soul thread goes towards the causes, the habits, the beliefs and the inner reactions that influence your decisions.
Let us go back to the example of the dream of a house by the sea. The earthly thread may lead you to pick a few possible towns, check property prices, draw up a rough budget, look at the conditions for moving or set a deadline. These steps sound entirely practical, and that is exactly where their strength lies. Sometimes a dream spends years in beautiful shape inside our head, until the first opening of a property website suddenly gives it a size, a neighbourhood and a price. From that moment there is something to work with.
The soul thread may ask completely different questions. What will you have to leave behind if you really move? Why have you been picturing such a life for years and always find a reason to postpone it? Who has to be pleased with your decision before you allow yourself to make it? How do you feel when the dream stops being a beautiful picture and starts to resemble a real possibility?
These two directions complement each other. One turns the wish into steps, the other shows why certain steps turn out to be hard. Sometimes a person knows perfectly well what the next step is and devotes an impressive amount of energy to inventing further reasons to postpone it. That is exactly where the soul thread has something to say.
After the reading you receive a concrete action for the day. It may be small, but it always relates to the theme you are walking with. Sometimes you will need to check information, look through listings, write down a few sentences, have a conversation, send an email, sort out documents, say clearly what you want, or set a boundary where you have long felt the need for one.
With a love question the task may be to stop the automatic reaction and observe what the other person does. With work, a concrete step may appear towards a conversation about a position, a new project or a price. With moving, the task may be entirely practical – to check conditions, towns and costs. Sometimes five minutes of action give more information than two hours of thinking it over.
This is where the transformational game begins to enter your life. The insight in itself is pleasant and sometimes very strong, but the movement begins when you do something with it. If every move ends only with “very interesting”, after a while you will have a rich collection of interesting things. If some of them turn into actions, change begins.
At certain moments the Game of the Soul reverses the direction, and instead of a new answer you receive a question addressed to yourself. This is the Mirror. If you asked “Will I have a house by the sea?”, the Mirror may ask you: “What makes you believe that this dream is possible for other people, while for you it always stays reserved for some future moment?”
With the question “Will he get in touch?” this may appear: “What will you do with your own life if this person carries on the same way?” And with “Will I get the new job?” the question may be: “When did you last show what you can do yourself, instead of waiting for someone to notice it?”
Beneath the Mirror there is space for your answer, and it stays private. You can write one sentence, a whole paragraph, or simply “I don't know”. Sometimes that very “I don't know” is a valuable starting point, because it marks a place where you have so far been acting out of habit.
Over time the answers accumulate. Then one of the most curious parts of the game begins – you read your own words from a few months ago and see how differently you were thinking in that moment. Sometimes you are very wise. Sometimes you ask yourself how you managed to defend so convincingly a decision that today looks obviously strange. Both belong to the story.
Along the spiral you may land on a Snake. It takes you back to a theme that needs one more look. If the Snake appears on your very first move, attention may turn to the question itself and to the way it is worded.
You may have come in with “Will we be together?”, and gradually the question “Why do I keep waiting for someone who avoids a decision?” shows itself. You may start with “Will I earn more?” and in time arrive at “Why is it hard for me to name a price that matches my work?”
When you sense that the theme has shifted, you can change the question and carry on from there. You can also stay with the old one for a while longer, if there is still something to understand in it. The game shows you the place that deserves attention, and the direction remains your choice.
The board also has special fields that change your path. The Wings lift you to another level, the portals move you to a new place, and the crossings bring the earthly and the soul thread together in one point.
The crossing often comes at a moment when you already have the realisation and the next step is starting to become obvious. You may spend a whole week understanding perfectly why you are postponing a conversation, and at some point it turns out that the game is showing a quite practical interest in the question of when you actually intend to have it.
Sometimes the movement is fast and several moves in a row open new themes. Other times you return to something you considered finished and discover one more layer. This resembles the way important life themes actually develop – they rarely run in a perfectly straight line and sometimes circle back to check whether you will recognise them faster this time.
When you reach the Abyss, the movement stops and you receive a question that awaits your answer. Here attention goes to something that is hard to fit into a ready-made message – a decision, a cause, a fear, an admission, or a theme you have been carefully circling for some time.
The answer stays with you and there is no one to grade it. The point is to put into your own words what you feel. Sometimes a person can spend weeks explaining one situation in seven entirely reasonable ways, and the moment they write one honest sentence, the picture suddenly becomes considerably simpler.
After you answer, the path continues. The Abyss is one of the places where the Game of the Soul shows its transformational side most clearly, because here your own participation is part of the move itself.
One of the most important features of FatedWays is that the question can be changed. Often we come in with what we want to know first, and after a few moves we discover what is actually occupying us.
You may begin with “Will he get in touch?” and in time arrive at “Do I still want this person, or do I want to find out whether I mattered to him?” You may ask at first “Will I have a house by the sea?”, and after a few weeks the theme is already “How do I turn this dream into a real plan for the next two years?”
That change is part of the path, and the old question stays saved in the Book of the Soul. So later you can follow how the way you see the situation has changed. The first question shows where you started, the next shows what you have already understood, and sometimes the third proves that you have finally stopped waiting for the same answer in a different wording.
At certain places you can also close the question. Then one circle closes and a new one begins.
You make a move whenever you want. Between moves you can open FatedWays and read your daily message, which is tied to the day, the planetary influences, the lunar phase and the question you are walking with.
This lets the theme carry on through the days when you have no wish to make a new move. Sometimes it is precisely then that a short message draws your attention to something happening in the real day. In the morning you read a sentence about boundaries; in the afternoon you get the familiar call from someone who traditionally treats your time as a freely available natural resource, and the connection becomes perfectly clear.
The daily message can be saved as an image and shared, or kept on your phone as a reminder of the theme of the day.
One move can say a lot about a particular day. Dozens of moves already begin to tell a story. That is exactly what the Traces of Fate do – they gather different moments, answers and actions and look for the connections between them.
The Trace begins with your very first movements and gradually links the messages, the tasks and the answers. In time it may turn out that different questions keep returning to one and the same theme – you wait for permission, postpone an action, take on too much of other people's responsibility, or find a way back into analysis precisely at the moment when a real step is due.
Taken separately, each case may look different. When you see them side by side, a resemblance begins to appear. And sometimes it is quite striking.
The Thread unlocks at the fiftieth move and looks at the longer arc of the path. It searches for what the separate periods have in common and is rewritten every ten moves, because the story keeps developing.
The theme that looked central around the fiftieth move may have an entirely different meaning by the eightieth. That is precisely what development shows – the questions change, the decisions become more concrete, and some things that looked enormous at the start gradually settle into their real place.
The letter from your future self comes at a certain threshold – fifty moves, half a year or one year in the game. It is written from the point of view of your future self, looking back at the period you are going through now.
This perspective is interesting precisely because today you are still inside the story. Later you will know which fears were justified, which grew larger in your head, which decisions changed the direction, and which events that look enormous now will turn into one paragraph of the past.
This trace appears from the second question onwards and shows the development of the theme itself. “Will it happen?” may become “What can I do?”, and after that “What is still stopping me from doing it?”
Here you see very clearly the movement from expecting to taking part. Sometimes the change of the question itself says more than any single answer.
This part unlocks at twelve steps across the last three months and looks for connections between events far enough apart in time to seem unrelated.
A field in June may have raised a theme that returns in August in another situation. A task you postponed a few months ago may appear again in a different form. When the days are far apart, such repetitions are easily missed. When they are gathered in one place, the family resemblance becomes rather obvious.
In the mirror chronicle your answers gather, together with the connections the Trace has found between them. After a few months you can read how you thought when you were in love, angry, frightened, confident, tired, or entirely convinced that this case was completely different from the previous one.
Sometimes it really is different. Sometimes it has merely changed its hairstyle.
And that is exactly why the history matters.
All the movements, fields, messages, mirror questions and your answers gather in the Book of the Soul. There you can see how long you have been in the game, which level you are on, which fields you have passed through and how your question has developed.
At first the Book resembles an archive. In time it starts to resemble a personal history. You can follow how a question that began with waiting for another person to decide gradually arrived at a decision of your own. You can see how a distant dream acquired a specific town, a budget and a deadline. You can find one and the same word in several of your answers and wonder how you managed to walk past it for so long.
After a few months this is more than an archive of cards and messages. It is a record of the way you thought, chose, acted and changed direction.
At first a person enters FatedWays because they want an answer. They are interested in what will happen, how a relationship will develop, whether an opportunity will appear, when work will change, or what follows around a particular decision.
In time you also begin to notice the way you ask the questions yourself. You see when you are waiting for someone else's decision, when you already know the next step, when you are looking for one more confirmation because the action seems more serious than yet another interpretation. You may discover that one and the same theme appears in love, work and money, only each time it is wearing different clothes.
You may realise that a question you considered to be about love was connected to your own worth. That a wish for more money actually led to the theme of the price of your work. That the dream of moving opened the question of how much freedom you allow yourself. Or that the phrase “it isn't the moment yet” is present in your life with such loyalty that it could comfortably request a profile of its own.
This is the moment when the transformational game begins to show your personal handwriting. And the more moves there are behind you, the more clearly it can be seen.
The systems can give a direction, point at a theme and connect different moments. After that comes your part. The conversation is held with your voice, the decision is made by you, the email is sent from your address, the boundary is set by you, and the suitcase, if the question really does reach as far as moving, will not pack itself either.
The more honestly you answer in the Mirror and the Abyss, the more sense the Traces begin to make. In time your own words begin to show connections that at the moment of writing you may not have noticed at all.
Sometimes you already know the most important message. You are simply seeing it for the first time arranged in a way that makes it hard to walk past.
FatedWays is available in eight languages and can be added to your phone's home screen as an app. The first seven days are free, with no bank card, so you can come in calmly, ask your question and see how the path works.
To begin you need one question – the one that is alive for you today. Then you choose a number from one to six and make your first move. There is no need to know in advance how far you will go. Part of the point is to see, in time, how the question itself has changed and how you have changed on the way to the answer.
If you want to understand how the system was created, why the board is a spiral, how the different levels connect and why several methods work together around one personal question, go on to About the game.
And when your theme has to do with the birth chart, the transits, an important period, a specific moment or a date, you can go on to The Celestial Teacher.
FatedWays is a transformational Game of the Soul in which you work with a personal question through Tarot, runes, the I Ching, Archangels, actions, the Mirror and the history that accumulates with your moves. In time the game begins to connect different moments and to show the recurring themes along your path.
You begin with a personal question, then choose a number from one to six and move along the spiral. On the field you land on you receive messages and guidance connected to your question, and at the end there may be a concrete action, a mirror question or a special field.
You make a move whenever you want. Between moves you can open your daily message, which carries on the theme of your question.
Yes. When the theme develops and you sense that your real question is now a different one, you can carry on with the new wording. The previous path stays saved, and later you can follow how your thinking has changed.
The moves, the messages, the mirror questions and your answers are kept in the Book of the Soul. In time part of that history also takes part in the Traces of Fate, where the connections between different periods and themes are sought.
Yes. The first seven days at FatedWays are free, and no bank card is required to begin.
